Questions

Questions about how hydrophobic coating works, how long it lasts, what it costs, and what to expect on the day, all answered here.

What hydrophobic coating actually is, how it performs, and whether it is right for your glass, answered straight.

What is a hydrophobic glass coating?
A hydrophobic coating is a nano-thin clear layer bonded to the glass surface that causes water to bead up and roll off rather than spread and dry flat. When water does not sit on the glass, it cannot leave minerals, soap, or salt deposits behind, which means fewer marks and easier cleaning.
Does it change how the glass looks?
No. The coating is completely clear and non-yellowing. Once it is on, you will not see it, only the effect. Glass tint, frosting, and decorative finishes are all unaffected.
Is it safe around kids, pets, and food prep areas?
Yes. Once cured the coating is inert and safe. There is a short cure window after application, typically a few hours, where we ask you to keep the surface dry. After that it is fully safe for normal household use.
Why is professional application better than a DIY product?
Prep is everything. Most DIY products skip or understate the importance of surface prep. If the glass is not perfectly clean and primed before the coating goes on, it bonds poorly and wears off quickly. We deep clean and prep every surface before we apply anything. That is what makes the result last.
Can it fix existing damage like scratches or deep etching?
No. Hydrophobic coating sits on the glass surface. It does not fill or repair damage below it. For light surface etching, our prep process sometimes improves the appearance. Deep scratches or severe acid etching require machine polishing, which we can quote separately.
Does it work on all types of glass?
Yes: clear, tinted, frosted, tempered, laminated, and mirrored glass. We adjust prep and application technique for different surfaces. If there is anything unusual about your glass, let us know when you enquire and we will advise before booking.

Questions about shower screen coating, the most common service we do and the one with the most day-to-day impact.

How long does shower screen coating last?
Typically 12–18 months with a simple daily rinse after each shower. Water hardness is the biggest variable. Hard water suburbs may see shorter windows without regular rinsing. Good habits extend the result significantly.
Will it stop soap scum completely?
No coating eliminates soap scum entirely, but it dramatically slows its build-up. Water and soap residue slides off much more easily rather than drying in place, so regular rinsing keeps the screen looking clean far longer between deep cleans.
Do I need to clean the screen before you arrive?
No. Leave it as is. We handle the deep clean as part of the service. Do not scrub it the day before in an attempt to help. We need to see the actual condition of the glass so we can prep it correctly.
How soon can I shower after the coating is applied?
Generally 4–6 hours. We will give you an exact time before we leave, based on conditions on the day. Most bookings are done by morning or early afternoon, so you can shower again the same evening.
My screen has heavy mineral scale. Can you still coat it?
Yes, but scale must be removed before the coating goes on. We include light descaling in our prep. If scale is severe, we will let you know on the day and quote restoration separately if needed. We will not start work you have not agreed to.
Does it work on frosted or patterned glass screens?
Yes. The coating bonds to the outer surface regardless of whether the glass is clear, frosted, or patterned. It does not affect the appearance or texture of the finish.
Can you coat multiple bathrooms in one visit?
Yes, and it is better value. We price per surface, and when you combine multiple screens or bathrooms in one visit the overall cost per screen comes down. Just mention it when you enquire.
Do you also coat bathroom mirrors?
Yes. Mirrors are a great add-on to a shower screen service. We are already in the bathroom, and a coated mirror resists toothpaste spots, steam build-up, and water splashes much better. Ask us to include mirrors when you book.

Everything about windscreen and side glass coating, wiper compatibility, what to expect, and how to look after it.

Will the coating affect my wipers?
No. Our formula is specifically designed to be wiper-compatible. Worn blades may still streak on any glass. We will flag this if we spot it on the day. Fresh or good-condition blades give the best result alongside the coating.
Which glass panels do you coat?
We can coat any glass on the vehicle: windscreen, all side windows, rear glass, sunroof or moonroof, and side mirrors. The windscreen-only package covers the most critical panel, while the full glass package covers everything in one visit.
Does it work on tinted windows?
Yes. The coating is applied to the outer glass surface and does not interfere with factory tinting, aftermarket tint film, or privacy glass in any way.
How long does it last on a car?
Typically 6–12 months, depending on how often you drive, how the car is washed, and whether you use the right cleaning products. Regular car washes with abrasive brushes reduce lifespan. Touchless or hand wash extends it.
Can I go through a car wash straight after?
Wait 24 hours before any car wash after application. After that, touchless washes are fine. Avoid brush-style automatic washes as abrasive bristles wear the coating faster over time.
Do you come to me, or do I bring the car somewhere?
We come to you. Home, workplace, or wherever the car is parked. We just need reasonable access and ideally a shaded spot to work. Direct hot sun can affect cure quality.
How long does a car job take?
Windscreen only: under 60 minutes. Full glass on a standard passenger car: 60–90 minutes. Larger vehicles like SUVs, utes, or vans: up to 2 hours. We will give you an accurate time estimate when we quote.

Pool fencing, balustrades, alfresco windows. Outdoor glass takes a beating. Here is what to know about coating it.

How long does outdoor glass coating last?
Most outdoor installs see 12–18 months of strong performance. Coastal properties and heavy dust exposure shorten that window. Regular rinsing and gentle maintenance extend it. We back all outdoor work with a 12-month satisfaction guarantee.
Does it help with salt spray near the coast?
Yes. This is one of the biggest benefits for coastal homes. Salt residue releases more easily from coated glass, which significantly reduces the spotting and haze that builds up quickly in ocean-facing installs.
Is the coating UV stable?
Yes. Our outdoor formula is designed for full sun exposure. It will not yellow, peel, or cloud over time. Sydney UV conditions are among the toughest in the world, and our product is selected specifically for this climate.
Is it safe around pools and pets once cured?
Yes. Once cured, usually the same day, the coating is inert. There is no chemical concern for pool water, plants, pets, or children using the area normally.
Can you coat balcony balustrades and alfresco windows too?
Yes. Any outdoor glass surface, including balustrades, windbreaks, alfresco windows, and large outdoor panes, can be coated. These are often added on to a pool fence job at a discounted rate.
What information do you need to quote outdoor glass?
Your suburb, the fence length or number of panels, and two photos: one close-up showing the glass condition and one wide shot showing the full area. That is enough for us to give you an accurate quote.

How we price, what is included, and what can change the final cost, all laid out plainly.

How do you price your services?
We price by surface type and size. Shower screens are priced per screen, car glass by package, and outdoor glass by fence length or panel count. Everything is quoted clearly before we start. No surprises.
Are there call-out fees?
No. Travel within our service area is included in the job price. What you are quoted is what you pay.
What can affect the final price?
Heavy mineral scale or severe build-up that requires extra restoration work. We will always tell you before we start if the glass needs additional attention and confirm the cost with you. We will not do work you have not agreed to.
Do you offer discounts for multiple surfaces or rooms?
Yes. Booking multiple services in one visit, for example shower screens plus pool fencing, or two cars, attracts a bundle discount. Mention it when you enquire and we will factor it into the quote.
Are your prices GST inclusive?
Yes. All quoted prices include GST. There are no hidden taxes or fees added at the end.
How do I get a quote?
Call us on 0434 946 801 for the fastest response, or email with your details and a couple of photos. For shower screens: number and rough size. For cars: make and model. For outdoor glass: suburb and fence length or panel count.

How to lock in a time, what we need from you, and what happens if plans change.

How do I book?
Call us on 0434 946 801. That is the fastest way. Alternatively, email us with your details and photos and we will come back to you with a quote and available times. We do not have an online booking system. All bookings are confirmed directly with us.
How far in advance do I need to book?
We often have same-week availability. Call early in the week for the best chance at your preferred slot. For larger or multi-service jobs, a few days notice is ideal.
What days and times do you work?
Monday to Saturday. We offer morning and afternoon slots. Early bookings tend to fill first. If you need an early start, mention it when you call.
Can I cancel or reschedule?
Free cancellations or reschedules up to 24 hours before the appointment. Within 24 hours a small fee may apply to cover travel and preparation costs. If something comes up, reach out as early as possible and we will do our best to accommodate you.
What if I am not home when you arrive?
We need access to the glass and, in most cases, access to water and power. If we cannot access the property a call-out fee may apply. Let us know in advance if your situation changes and we will reschedule without issue.
Do I need to be home during the job?
For most jobs, you do not need to be present the whole time, but we do need someone available at the start and end. At the start we will confirm what is being coated. At the end we will walk you through the aftercare. For car jobs, you just need to be nearby to hand over access.

How to look after coated glass to get the most out of it, and what shortens the coating's life.

What is the single most important thing I can do to make it last?
Rinse regularly. On shower screens, a quick rinse after every use stops minerals and soap from accumulating. On outdoor glass, a weekly hose-down in dusty or coastal areas does the same. Regular rinsing is worth more than any cleaning product.
Which cleaning products are safe?
pH-neutral glass cleaner and a soft microfibre cloth. Avoid anything acidic, ammonia-based products, bleach, and abrasive scrubbing pads. These strip the hydrophobic layer and significantly shorten its life.
Can I use a squeegee on coated glass?
Yes. A soft squeegee is fine and actually helps. Squeegees remove water from the surface quickly which reduces the chance of minerals being left behind as water evaporates.
How do I know when the coating is wearing off?
Water will stop beading and start flattening out on the glass surface. You will also notice that marks build up faster again after cleaning. When you see this consistently, it is time for a reapplication.
What shortens coating life the most?
In order: abrasive cleaners and pads, acidic or ammonia-based products, heavy salt and dust without regular rinsing, and brush-style car washes. Avoiding these keeps the coating performing for its full lifespan.
Do you offer reapplication reminders?
Yes. Ask us to add you to our reapplication schedule and we will reach out when it is time, typically 12 months after the original job. Reapplication is faster than the initial service because the glass is usually in much better condition.

What we promise, how payment works, and what happens if something is not right.

What does your 12-month guarantee cover?
If you are unhappy with the result, clarity, even coverage, or the coating's performance, call us within 12 months and we will inspect and reapply at no cost. The guarantee applies when aftercare guidelines have been followed. It does not cover damage caused by abrasive cleaning or use of prohibited products.
How do I pay?
Card, bank transfer, or cash on completion. Full payment is due on the day of service once the job is finished. We do not take deposits for standard residential bookings.
What if I am not happy with the result on the day?
Tell us before we leave. We would rather address any concern on the spot than have you unhappy after the fact. If something does not look right, we will check it and fix it on the day at no additional cost.
Do you have public liability insurance?
Yes. We carry public liability insurance for all work we carry out. If you need confirmation of coverage before booking a larger job, just ask when you enquire.
Do you service commercial properties?
Yes. We work with property managers, builders, and commercial clients on shower screens, office glass, balustrades, and other commercial applications. Commercial jobs are quoted individually. Call us to discuss your project.
How do I get in touch if something goes wrong after the job?
Call us directly on 0434 946 801 or email hello@beamsmarketing.com. We are a small local team. You deal with the same people who did the job, not a call centre.
